Subject: Comenius Language Project

Dear Mr Terje Benzen,

we had your name from Mrs ******, Istituto "Palladio" Treviso Italy, who informed us that your school may be interested in a school exchange with our country.

We are trying to organize a Comenius Language Project  regarding Art. Any topic could be fine. Our suggestion is to explore the use of the colour as a means of expression in the 16th century art in our area (north-east of Italy) and contemporary Norvegian art: from Giorgione to Munch, from Titian to Nolde.

Our school is a 5 years-course mainly concerning languages (English, French and German), as well as Italian, Art, Latin, History, Philosophy, Science and Maths.

The students involved in the project would be the IV° class-students, age 17 - 18. They themselves asked to take part to an European  Language Project; in fact they are strongly motivated and willing to have this kind of experience.

If you are not interested but you know of a school in your country that could be, please, let us know.

I wish to inform you that I would be on holiday from the 19th July to the end of August so I would very much appriciate if you can send me a quick answer so that we can go on and ask the preparatory visit.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Best regards

Dear Mr ***********

we were very pleased to receive your e-mail and read that you are interested in the Comenius Language Project.

We are just back from our summer vacation and, as you said, it's high time to set the wheels in motion.

First of all we should organize the preparatory visit. We should suggest March on our side. What about you?

Winter in our country is not so bad so, maybe, you could come before March.

We are new in this project but willing to carry it on so, please, help us planning it with your ideas and experience.

Waiting for your quick reply we thank you in advance,

Best wishes

Dear Mr **********

Thank you very much for your answer.

We agree with your schedule: prepare the project this school year (02-03), and visit each other next school year (end September/beginning of October 2003 would be suitable for us to visit you with our students).

What about coming to Italy and meet us? If you ask for the preparatory visit right now, you can come whenever you want.

Yours sincerely

 Dear Mr T*** B***

Thank you very much for your email.

We wish to inform you that our school is closed on Monday 10th March for the patron saint's feast day. Anyway it is not  a problem for us to come and pick you up at the airport. We wish to know what accomodation you prefer:

* staying in Valdobbiadene, - hotel or bed-and-breakfast ( 2 single bedrooms or one double ?). Ous school is situated in Valdobbiadene, it is a small town, not very lively but quite relaxing and quiet. The school starts at 8.00am and finishes at 1.00 Afternoons are free.  There are beautiful places around here where we can take you in the afternoon.

* staying in Treviso, - hotel or bed-and-breakfast - Treviso is a big town 35 kms from Valdobbiadene, about a 50 minute-drive. Some of our teachers, and also our headmistress, live in Treviso, so it wouldn't be a problem to drive you to school in the morning and take you back in the afternoon.  Of course Treviso is more lively and you can be much more indipendent ( lots of shops, too and a nice town to visit).  From Treviso you can easily reach Venice by train, only 30 minutes. We would suggest this accomodation if you prefer being more indipendent, spend the morning at school and have the afternoon to yourselves.

* of course we have also considered the possibility of hosting you in teachers's homes. We all live outside Valdobbiadene, in the nearby villages.

Please, let us know your choise and indicate if the teachers are male or female.

As far as the activities are concerned we suggest the following:

get to know our school and area,

meet and talk to the students who are involved in the project,

meet the students of the other linguistic classes ( 1st-2nd-3rd class ), speak to them about your school and your students,

plan the activities we would like to do together while your students are here and while we come to visit you - fix the dates, as well,

define and organize the contents of the art project - exchange of materials we would like to use,

define how we would work in class, ie: work in groups, teacher-oriented lesson, student presentation  ect.

Could you, please, send the teachers phone numbers? I would like to get in touch with them. My home phone number is  0039 0438 896270.   You can contact me in the late afternoon or in the evening.

I am looking forward to hearing from you soon,

 Regards,

      M*** R***
